Joseph Shore-Salieri and Ron Gentry-Mozart. New York Premiere 1981-82,85 Chamber Opera Theatre of New York; Thaddeus Motyka, Director; Henry Mollicone-Conductor
Francois Joseph Fetis wrote this song around 1833 and passed it off as written by Stradella. In 1843 he republished it with religious words, "Pieta Signore" which soon became famous.
Joseph Shore sings Jesus; Diane Fox sings The Samritan Woman; from I Am The Way by Jerome Hines.
The presentation is intended to highlight Jesus' radical nature. He reveals himself and his message to a woman of another religion to give it a universalism as the Cosmic Christ.
