I promise, this looked like God Himself painted this incredible image just for me. I was in awe as I just stood and stared quietly at this amazing site! Words really can't describe so you will have to see for yourself!
This tornado was near McLean, Texas. The video was digitalized from Hi-8 video so some of the quality was lost. It's still a cool looking tornado though.
When the downdraft comes rushing out of the storm, the air can get caught in the updraft and actually cause spinning vortices of dust and air called gustnados. Much like a dust devil except it's not caused by rising heated air.
This reminds me of the Star of Bethlehem. I always wondered how God could guide the wise men to one small spot where the Christ child lay using star light. When I see this, I realize it couldn't have been too hard for Him.
This is a good view of this storm in low light. When the lightning strikes, notice the banding stripes in the upper part of the cloud - a sure sign of rapid rotation!
This storm didn't even have a severe thunderstorm warning issued on it. Some storms, and I don't know why, have some kind of vorticity occurring high in the cloud that causes this. I can usually watch a storm and know within 10 minutes if it is this kind of storm. They usually aren't dangerous, but they can make these little funnels high in the cloud.
This is called a shelf cloud, roll cloud or Arcus cloud. Whenever you see it coming toward you, you know the wind is about to blow. About 10 minutes after this video, the wind was blowing close to 60 mph.
I was stuck in a bar ditch for 5 hours(never storm chase on a dirt road) or I would have never shot this footage. These mammatus clouds looked fake, but they were unbelievably beautiful and real.
Borger, TX was verrrry lucky this day! This funnel cloud eventually dropped a tornado, but it was only on the ground for a few seconds and caused some minor damage. The funnel cloud was huge!
Same storm as the other Borger funnel cloud video clip. The funnel cloud had shrunk in size and dropped to the ground for a few seconds...causing some minoe damage.
