The Peanut Vendor, El Manisero, was written by an emigrant to Cuba, Moises Simmons, and recorded in 1928 in Havana. It was re-recorded and released in 1930 in New York; it introduced the American public to an authentic latin dance rhythm, and its effect was to set off a decade of rumba-mania.
