Today was my dynamic speed bench press day. I used 237.5 lbs x 10 sets of 3 speed reps each. There is a rest of 1 minute between each set and I finished the workout off by doing 315 lbs x 3.
Speed reps have really helped me increase my speed out of the bottom of the bench press. Give it a try...
I finished off todays workout with a killer drop set:
Bench Press Lock-outs (9"): 500 lbs x 2
Bench Press Lock-outs (7"): 365 lbs x 3
Bench Press Lock-outs (5"): 315 lbs x 1
Bench Press Burnout: 225 lbs x 9
I haven't done deadlifts in a few years, so I wanted to see if I could deadlift 500 lbs. For fun, I did:
135 lbs x 10 reps
225 lbs x 10 reps
315 lbs x 10 reps
405 lbs x 1 rep
500 lbs x 1 rep
That's it for the deads...I'll have to get into this lift more after I hit my 400 lb bench goal.
I am going to try doing lockouts to increase my power on the bench. I did 345x2, 365x2, 385x2, 405x2, and then 410x1. Hopefully this will help me get to 400 lbs on the bench sooner...
Yesterday I did 365 lbs, so today I was just fooling around a little bit. I did a negative with 370 lbs, then I did 2 neg's with 405 lbs. After that, I did a drop set with 315 lbs to see how many I could do. 315 lbs never felt soooo heavy...
I added bench press lock-outs to my bench workout to help increase my power. I did this after benching 370 lbs, tricep extensions, and close-grip benching 345 lbs.
Here's what I did for chest today:
Bench 365 lbs x 1, 375 lbs x 1
Bench Neg's 380 lbs x 1, 405 lbs x 1, 425 lbs x 1, 445 lbs x 1, 455 lbs x 1
Drop set from the 455 lb neg to 315 lbs for 4 (almost 5).
Then on to Incline's...
Today I did regular bench 315 lbs x 7, 370 lbs x 1, then Incline Tri Extensions, and then close-grip bench presses 225 lbs x 5, 315 lbs x 1, 345 lbs x 1.
Did some lighter training today to see if I could beat my personal best with 325 lbs. Felt like I was going to get 7, but it didn't happen...next time!
Yes! I finally got it...and it didn't even feel that bad. You can hear me in the video say, "yeah baby," as soon as I knew I was past the sticking point. Then it was the easy part...the lock-out.
