The Detoured Auto Train is done refueling and has clearance to depart. It heads west towards Cary where it will head south on CSX's S-line towards Hamlet. As it gains speed, it passes an NS grain train heading east towards downtown Raleigh led by (I believe) 2 GEVOS.
After NCDOT F59PHI 1755 towed 80 to Washington yesterday, 79 brought it back to NC. It was dropped off during the Raleigh station stop, so I went down to see it.
Amtrak #80, the northbound Carolinian, heads east by the NC State Fairgrounds towards downtown Raleigh. It passes the stopped, detoured southbound Auto Train, who is getting fuel before continuing west.
After NS 349 clears, NS 350 navigates Boylan Jct. and heads north towards Glenwood Yard. Check out the fouled horn! This train was led by an SD40-2, an SD60?, and a GP60.
I caught 3 trains today at Waffle House, including F742-08 with the "Devil Unit," AC60CW #666. I have never seen this interesting engine, which also sports blue letters on the side instead of yellow. The trains were going slow between Fairgrounds and Waffle House for some reason, so sorry for all of the footage with no train; I wasn't sure when each one would actually come into view.
I spent an hour or two in Mansfield, MA (150 mph territory!) in 2006. The only Acela I caught was going slow due to an MBTA right in front of it. I caught 2 meets south of the station at the interlocking.
Norfolk Southern train 350 follows Amtrak 80 into Raleigh. This train was pulled by 2 Catfish and a GP60. It was nice seeing some 4-axle power back in Raleigh after a few weeks of Catfish.
Another nice day @ Waffle House. The addition of my new Traintenna helped me hear a lot more radio chatter. Sorry about 80's video being a little shaky; I had just gotten there as 80 was coming by (ontime!). I believe 350 gave me some sort of shave and a haircut. Can anyone identify the horn on F741? Once it had passed me, it sounded like a GEVO off in the distance.
Norfolk Southern train 350 follows Amtrak 80 into Raleigh led by a couple of Catfish. The train had a bunch of Humvees on flatcars and a scale test car (not shown in this video).
A CSX rock train heads west out of Raleigh past the NC State Fairgrounds after Amtrak 80 cleared. It is led by 2 AC44CWs. Once this train gets to Cary, it will head south on CSX's S-Line towards Hamlet.
A southbound Amtrak Regional led by 2 AEM-7s crawls by the Seabrook MARC station. For about the first half of my trip there, there were heat restrictions. Plus, there were many southbounds going into Washington, D.C. while I was at Seabrook.
A northbound and a southbound Acela pass at the Seabrook MARC station. The reason the southbound was going so slow was because it was closely following the nonstop MARC from the previous video. In fact, it was so close behind that train that it had to stop for a moment at the signals north of the station.
