Prelude to Computer Science - 5: Binary Numbers Prelude to Computer Science - 5: Binary Numbers
Posted by: TheFallibleFiend

Video duration: 363 seconds

Computers use binary numbers internally, because components that use binary are easier and cheaper to build. Whenever you type a number into the computer, it gets converted to binary internally, and then back to decimal for output. (Actually, it's converted to ASCII for output, but that's for a later discussion.)

Video duration: 581 seconds

Explanation of evolution for Octamed.
Pro-evolution, of course. Just realized I posted a response to his video 2 months ago ... so I must have been aware of it at one time.
Just caught a mistake in the last bullet at t=2:20, namely that a population will increase without bound IF THERE IS NO PRESSURE ON IT.

Creationism vs Thermodynamics part 1 Creationism vs Thermodynamics part 1
Posted by: TheFallibleFiend

Video duration: 569 seconds

Evolution does not "depend on" abiogenesis.
Neither evolution nor abiogenesis violates 2LOT.
Creationists need to do basic homework on the subject of thermodynamics, before they set about "educating" other people.

Prelude to Computer Science - 4: Essential Math, Base 10 Prelude to Computer Science - 4: Essential Math, Base 10
Posted by: TheFallibleFiend

Video duration: 312 seconds

The number system with which most of us are familiar is a base-10, positionally-weighte d number system. The concepts used to understand this number system will be directly transferable to understanding the number systems often used in studying computers.

Is Infinity a Number? Is Infinity a Number?
Posted by: TheFallibleFiend

Video duration: 385 seconds

Yes. It's a number, but I would argue that declaring it an integer results in Russell's Paradox, if we use the same Zermelo-Frankl definition of integers that you employed.

Popular account of "Complexity Theory" that includes many reminiscences from conversations and experiences he has had in his career.
Textbooks are useful, but they leave out a lot of the adventure of science. This kind of book helps connect the dots.

Creationists are like the really deluded American Idol Contestants who are convinced they're brilliant, but are tragically and sometimes tragi-comically bad.

Creationist Method of Evaluating the Evidence Creationist Method of Evaluating the Evidence
Posted by: TheFallibleFiend

Video duration: 381 seconds

Should creationists be allowed to serve on juries? Their method of evaluating the evidence is to make up their minds, before seeing 'any' of the evidence and then attempt to justify their uninformed belief, while ignoring or misrepresenting the real evidence, and promoting urban legend as fact.
