Here is the last freight I waited for this day, Q-439 heading WB out of Baltimore. The power on the mixed freight was comprised of all EMDs which was nice to catch.
SD60I 8731 leads the train, 2nd unit is SD70MAC 4544, 3rd unit is SD50-2 2482 and the 4th unit is SD50-2 2495. The engineer gave an awesome salute on 8731's nice K5LA as he rolled by.
A rare CSX B36-7 runs light through St. Denis with a wave from the engineer. I am not sure where he was headed to, although my friend thought he may have been going to pick up a work train. Also ntoice how the engine knocked over one of the red stop panels at the beginning and how he radioed Foreman R.N. Young letting him know lol..
Now we see a Norfolk Southern local freight doing some work making some passes through the town. Athearn RTR Norfolk Southern "Horsehead" GP38-2 #5287 powers the train with a set of 4 out of 5 Athearn RTR Burlington Northern grain hoppers along with a Bachmann Silver Series CSX coal hopper and an NS coal hopper also.
GP38-2
CSX EB Q-376's crew gets permission to their mixed freight into Baltimore during the last moments of daylight. The motive power is ES44DC 5316 leading, 2nd unit is CW44AC 5119, 3rd unit is CW60AC 612, and the 4th unit is SD-60 8712.
The 2nd part of Saturday's trip was a stop at the W&W RR to chase 4-4-0 #98 that hosted a retirement party onboard the train from 4 pm to 7 pm. The 1st of 2 shots we got of the train was at a golf course on Lancaster Pike in Delaware.
CSX Q-438 gets his signal to head into Baltimore with a mixed freight. This train had a cool lashup consisting of CW60AC 687 on the lead, SD70MAC 4786, CW44AC 335, and SD40-2 8050. 687 had a nice sounding K5LA. (more)
MARC Cab Car 7753 makes a brief stop at Halethorpe SB headed to Washington D.C. No horn from the engineer but at least he waved. MARC GP40WH-2 #58 provided the motive power shoving on the rear. Please excuse my friend there getting in the shot, I guess the trains really overexcited him..lol
CSX U-878 heads EB toward Baltimore led by 2 CW44AC's attacking the grade through Mt. Airy with a unit coal drag in tow..Very surprising to see this train without helpers on the rear.. Guess the 44AC's had enough muscle to power the train up the grade
I didn't catch the number for this EB mixed freight rumbling by St. Denis. ES44DC 5442 is on the lead, CW40-8 7753 is the 2nd unit, and SD-60 8701 is the 3rd unit on this lengthy mixed freight. The engineer gave some horn for my friend and I as he passed.
After waiting for both MARC P-853 and CSX E-726 to pass WB, CSX Q-438 gets on the move again continuing EB toward Baltimore. SD70ACE 4836 is the lead unit with CW60AC 659 trailing. 4836's K5LA did not sound the best. Pardon me briefly walking in front of the camera.
CSX Q-217 glides by St. Denis WB with CW40-8 7347 and Leaser SD40-2 3102 on The Old Main Line handling a lengthy consist of Autoracks headed out toward Brunswick..
I shot the rear of 322 pulling out of the siding and got a closer look at 2 new NJ Transit Cab Cars headed south. I wonder if either MARC or VRE bought these cars or wanted to test them?? If anyone knows more about this please feel free ro share any info.
After CSX EB Q-410 passed through and cleared St. Denis, CSX EB E-603 starts rolling again heading EB toward Baltimore. 2 CW44ACs provide the power with CW44AC 504 leading with CW44AC 147 trailing. Disregard the little conversation I had with the conductor as it was pretty pointless. I believe this is the first time I have caught an EB empty coal train on the Capital Sub.
This was a neat catch. CSX Q-762 heads WB out of Baltimore. The power on this Rock Runner was pretty sweet. GP38-2 2513 (which I believe is an Ex. Seaboard unit) is on the lead, 2nd unit is C40-8 7593, 3rd unit is SD-50 8520, and the 4th unit is SD-50 8550. 2513 is also sporting a classic Leslie RS5T horn.
After X-409 passed by, CSX SD40-2 8876 proceeds EB with a short mixed with
CW40-8 7364 trailing. I couldn't make out the train number because 8876 had a junk radio which made it basically impossible to interpret what the crew was saying. Pretty sure this train was a yard job out of Jessup. 8876's K5LA sounded pretty nice.
Here is CSX E-721 WB crossing over to The Old Main Line with an empty coal train headed back to Grafton. The power is CW44AC 405 on the lead and CW60AC 642 trailing. The engineer gave a nice horn salute while he was passing by.
After waiting on the siding at Avalon, CSX U-822 finally received permission from the dispatcher to continue EB toward Baltimore on the Old Main Line before being outlawed. Ex. Conrail SD70MAC 4580 is on the lead with CW44AC 376 trailing. No horn from the engineer although he was nice enough to wave. CSX W086 is seen sitting on 2 Track waiting to depart which will be seen in an upcoming vid.
