The track features Chad Kroeger from Nickelback, whom he previously worked with for "Why Don't You and I" from his album Shaman. It has received a considerable amount of airplay on VH1. Dania Ramirez of Heroes stars in the music video.

It was later covered by Demis Roussos, Bono of U2 with The Corrs, Gry with FM Einheit and his Orchestra, Scooter (on the 2000 album Sheffield), and by Ville Valo & Natalia Avelon for the soundtrack of Das Wilde Leben. It was also covered by Ed Kuepper and Clare Bowditch on the cult Australian music gameshow Rockwiz.

The single was produced by Danja and written by The Clutch, and featured southern-rapper Lil Wayne. The remix with Lil Wayne has a slightly different instrumental from the original, however the remix with Lil Wayne on iTunes has the same instrumental as the original.
"If You Had My Love" is the first single from Jennifer Lopez's debut album, On the 6. Released in 1999, the single peaked at number one in the U.S., becoming Lopez's first number-one single; it also peaked at number four in the UK. The song is well-known for its voyeuristic music video.
