I couldn't have said it better myself. Charles Bradley & the Menahan Street Band break you off a slab of soul, with lyrics to match. On Dunham records, the label belonging to Tommy "TNT" Brenneck of the Dap-Kings. I can't wati fo their LP to drop!
Funky instrumental by the Dap-Kings of a Daptone classic, How Long Do I Have To Wait For You, by Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. If this song doesn't make you dance, you must not have soul!
Off of his Electric Funk LP on solid state records. I'm not sure what year its from, but its the a-side to his Back On The Track 45. Produced by Horace Ott and Sonny Lester.
"Everybody knows, that we got soul! So when you get that feeling, that good good feeling, Git In There!" Betty Davis, what more could be said? She's got Funk pumping through her veins. This 45 is on the Just Sunshine label and from her "They Say I'm Different" LP. Mike Clark on drums!
Bronx River Parkway La Valla Latin Funk 45 on Truth & Soul Records from 2006. Bronx river parkway is composed of members of the Daptone funky family, and are releasing their LP "San Sebastian 152" soon (hopefully)
I just returned to Hawaii from my trip to New York, and attended this NaS in-store signing there, where he was was promoting his new album. Got my CD signed, and he even answered a few questions. I asked if he ever had plans on doing a show in Hawaii, and he said "Nah, I'd like to though." This album is an instant classic also!
Tragic deep soul 45, as Mr. Bradley backed again by the Menahan Street band, wails about his brothers murder. This is a pretty deep record. On Dunham records from 2007.
I don't know much about this band or 45, but one thing's for sure, its sho nuff funky, ya dig? I wonder what they slipped the drummer, but whatever it is, can I get some?
Funky 45 from Fatback Band leader Bill Curtis. This 45 is on Perception from 1973. This track is a dancefloor classic, and I'm looking for the Mighty Tomcats version if anyone can help me.
James Young & the House Wreckers on Jet Stream records. Date unknown, but it's the b-side to Funky Booty, which is a reworking of Jean Knight's Mr. Big Stuff.
Daptone records, this track is the b-side of This Love Aint big Enough, and is the instrumental to Can't stop thinking about you. Downtempo groover recorded under the moniker Dirt Rifle & the Bullets. Sweet break in the middle, and Daptone comes through again.
Funk 45 from Charles Bradley and the Bullets on Daptone records. I think the Bullets are another group comprised of Daptone artists, but nonetheless, track is really heavy with a juicy break. Enjoy
