I love this song... This version was originally released on the Esta record label.. I believe they were called The Columbus 4 Pharaohs on that label. They redid this record for the Nanc label as The Egyptian Kings. They also released a few great records as The 4 Pharaohs on the Ransom label. They are from Columbus, Ohio.
Look closely at the label.... "The Wows Of Love". Interesting misprint. Technically this is a 2nd or third pressing, but it's by far the hardest version of this 45 to get. They pulled this one out of production quickly when they saw the misprint.

Great side by The Majestics. This really has that early Detroit sound. The Motown sound didn't only belong to Berry Gordy's family of labels.. It was a sound happening all over Detroit. Not to take anything away from Motown/Tamla/Gordy, but the real pioneers to what we now call the Motown sound would the Jack and Devora Brown, proprietors of Fortune and Hi-Q records.
B-Side of I Cried For Your Love. Good tune.. I love this early Detroit sound. It wasn't something that just appeared when Motown came around.. Detroit had a very distinct sound since the early 50s. Motown took the Detroit sound, put their spin on it and took it big time.

This great 50's R&B song is the flip side of Sleep. Even though it was a hit, Sleep doesn't show up very often. When it does most doo wop/r&b guys probably pass it up. I don't recall hearing this on any of the oldies shows or seeing it mentioned in any publications.
Great sound. I looked closely at the label and noticed Audicon music. I wonder if there was a connection to the famous label that produced The Passions. It's possible that Audicon decided to produce records and sublet them to bigger labels.

This was recorded in 1988 which is why the arrangement is a bit cheesy.. I never liked low bit synthesizers. Looking passed that this is a great track. Possibly (and probably) the last 45 The Clovers did.

I would not call this Northern Soul or soul for that matter.. However, it definitely has a Northern Soul arrangement. It also has some nice doo wop elements thrown in.

Ronnie I sound. I would have never know this existed if it weren't for Ronnie. He's being sincerely missed and it's a shame he never really understood how important he is.

From Syracuse, NY. This is actually a late sound for having such a classic 50's feel. The only thing that gives away the fact that this record is from '63 is the electric bass. It really sounds like a 56-57 sound to me. Beautiful song.

Here's a rare one. My friend Bill Calbrese introduced me to this record. It's a virtually unknown record.. Just about everyone I played it for hasn't heard of it previously.
