Scotch-Canadian song (circa 1840), "The Scarborough Settler's Lament," performed by the Bard of Cornwall. The melody is older, but the lyrics are by Canadian Sandy Clandenning. My version owes much to that of Stan Rogers, which is beautiful.
William Maples' song inspired by Irish folk music and classic murder ballads... It's more an attempt to tell a rather dark story (hence the use of lyrics only as a video).
