I had a dead microwave oven transformer so i sawed off the secondary and replaced it with 2 turns of very thick wire. I then made a simple yet very effective spot welder.
Here is Rogers coil running at the mid ohio teslathon. It is a dc resonant charging 5kva pole pig+voltage doubler coil overdriven to 7kva and throws 10' streamers.
This morning i lashed up a quick resonant mot setup and it work suprisingly well. As you can see in the last arc draw the voltage decided to go into the concrete and made a melted glob of my alligator clip :-X
This is the power supply for my big tesla coil but today i just hooked it up to draw arcs. It outputs 8.8kv 250ma but because of power limitations i had to run it at around 7.5kv. The total power output is 4.8kw.
I had some aerovox pulse capacitors laying around so i lashed up a can crusher. The results were pretty good considering it was only 400j. I will still have to experement with the work coil and i will get even better results.
I was having some people over so i decided to do a demo on my largest tesla coil. It had streamers around 4' but i still need to do a little more tuning and i will be able to get around 7' streamers.
The specs are
power supply.... 4 mot's
spark gap.... dc asynchronous 120 bps
primary.... 14 turns 1/4" copper tubing
secondary.... 32" 25g mag wire on a 6" pvc form
