Dr Strangely Strange come to the tiny 12-Bar Club to play their first London date in 36 years, and open with this lovely, if ramshackle, version of 'Strangely Strange But Oddly Normal'.
In 1974 Marty Feldman recorded a series for the BBC entitled 'Marty Back Together Again'. More satirical in tone than his celebrated 60s sketch show, it included renditions of several classic Tom Lehrer songs. Here is one of them.
Apologies for the long distance view - my camera does have a zoom, maybe I should have used it. Bert is on banjo; John is sat on the floor playing the sitar. They still sound the same.
From the 1974 BBC series 'Marty Back Together Again', Marty Feldman & Derek Griffiths perform this classic satirical song by the great Tom Lehrer. Apologies for the slightly dodgy quality, but it's a real rarity.
Dr Strangely Strange's return to the London stage after an absence of 36 years fell on Bloomsday, prompting this performance of Ivan Pawle's setting to music of Joyce's poem.
Live at Bush Hall, London, 25 May 2007. Apologies for distorted sound (The Apples play too loud for the tiny mic on my camera), but the clip captures the Energy that the 3 new members bring to the band.
Tom Lehrer performing 'Pollution' on The Frost Report On Holidays (17th March 1966). This clip comes from the recent anniversary special The Frost Report Is Back.
The Lilys appear on Top Of The Pops as 'A Nanny In Manhattan' makes the UK charts after it is used on a Levis ad. The band are playing totally live - a brave decision considering Kurt sounds like he's coming down with laryngitis.
Extracts from an attempted Kraftwerk medley performed at a friend's birthday bash in November 2001. Instruments included recorders, theremin, stylophone & lapsteel. James from Silvery on FX pedals and processed backing vocals. Damo from Dead Singer on drums (off-screen). Totally unrehearsed and ending in an impromptu wig-out. Apologies to Ralf & Florian (and fans of Kraftwerk)!
Alternate view of this flawed but fun Kraftwerk medley, performed without rehearsal for a birthday bash somewhere in Acton, November 2001. Schoolroom recorders, theremin, lapsteel, stylophone, members of Silvery and Dead Singer; plus Monster Raving Loony candidate for Maidenhead in 2001's General Election. A motley bunch.
Practising Donovan's classic 'Epistle To Dippy' at a rehearsal studio in Fulham, May 2000, in preparation for a performance Upstairs At The Garage. It went less well on the night!
Mostly instrumental run-through at an overlit Westbourne Studios, London, November 1999. Jona Lewie helps out on keyboards and the occasional vocal, and there is an almost successful attempt at the theremin for the outro.
