EJ&E SD38-2 674 and HLCX 6056 lead a eastbound manifest through the outskirts of Joliet, IL, Milepost 5 on the EJ&E Eastern Subdivision. Sorry about the long wait time. The EJ&E/HLCX duo continues eastbound passing over Wolf Road in Frankfort. Another nice hybrid crossing bell, not to mention the RS3L horn! For more views of this train check out the three other videos!
UP AC4400CW 6081 leads a westbound empty coal train through Malta. This crossing has serious problems, first off the bell only rings from start-up until the gates begin lowering, then again when the gates rise. Also the light pattern messes up every so often, and the lights turn off before tha gates rise.
BNSF SD70MAC 8935 leads a eastbound coal train through LaVergne. This train has one very rare item of interest, a DPU! This is the first time I've ever seen a DPU on the racetrack.
I've always been a fan of the smaller shortline and regional railroads. They are one of the main providers of vintage diesel power and keep some variety in railroads today. While they may not be as busy as class ones they are still interesting routes.
WC SD45 7525 leads a photo freight at the Illinois Railway Museum. They replaced the IC P5 horn with a awesome sounding and very very rare nathan M5! Also notice the shave and a haircut attempt! Runby #1 of 4!
Update: They M5 horn has been replaced by a P3, which was the horn it had on the WC!
BNSF ES44DC 7518 leads a eastbound stack train through Rochelle past the new crossing. The crossing was the one with the old bell, but now the new one makes the UP crossing sound good!
As the Metra train in the last video sits at Riverside station, BNSF 9919 comes through town with a coal train. This is normally a quiet zone, however, the engineer has the option to honk when meeting other trains at stations for safety reasons like what is seen here.
Two westbounds come through LaVergne close together. The first has Amtrak P42 164 leading the westbound Southwest Chief. Notice the surfliner cab car behind the P42s, #6904. The second train has a pair of BNSF SD75Ms led by H2 8266 on a manifest.
