The Timepiece is the final piece of coursework for my 3D Animation module at the University of Hull, Scarborough Campus.
Up until now I've only ever used Maya to create still images so this is my first proper animated short. I enjoyed making it and am already in the process of developing future ideas.

This animation is a 3D representation of Potassium (K). The nucleus contains 19 Protons (RED) and 20 Neutrons (BLUE). The nucleus is then orbited by 19 electrons.
This is a quick simple model of an old fashioned telephone.
The model contains a mix of Nurbs, Polygons, Sub-Ds, and is then finally rendered using Maya Software.
After looking around YouTube I found one user who had made a showreel of some cool media that they had learnt from a tutorial website.
I decided to checkout the website and found some really cool tutorials. If anyone else wants to check out the tutorials then visit www.videocopilot.net
Here's a polygons model of a car tyre I made following a tutorial... I've included the link below so that you can try modelling this tyre yourself.
Thank you to CG Arena for the tutorial.

Okay this time I thought I'd put loads more clips together and make a video wall. Then using the 3D environment I could move the camera around a bit.
Some of the videos required looping as they didn't play for long enough, i.e. the telephone (top left).
Heres another after effects animation I made following a tutorial from www.videocopilot.net it uses lots of different built-in plug-ins and effects but was reletively fast to do.
Day 2
The main reason I'm learning after effects is so that I can use it as a composition tool for two things really. 1. Animation and 2. Creating Show-Reels etc. So it only seemed sensible to have a go at utilising the 3D environment.
I used some of my 3D portfolio as stock content, and moved the camera in After Effects around the 3D environment.
The opening scene from my animation for 3D Design at Uni.
This took about 5 - 6 hours to render largely due to the paint effects included (grass and vines). I then realised I had forgotten to add a door handle lol.
Please Note: Original isn't this dark, its YouTube compression that makes it look really dark.
Now that I could see the potential that After Effects has to offer I decided to try some composite editing by using hand drawn images of a character and a tree. Chroma keying was also used to remove the background from the images.
Once spaced out in the 3D environment all that was required was to move the camera along the Z axis.
I have started working on my character for the final assignment in the learning Maya 8.5 class lessons from HullUniLecturer.
The skull was sculpted using a Nurbs sphere, as were the eyes and neck.
Keep watching my channel to see this character progress.
